'60 metres, plus change' - massive drop goal stuns fans

Drop goal specialists are hard to come by in today's game thanks to more emphasis being placed upon controlled attacks based on probability rather than a chance shot at goal. Despite the change in pace over the years, there still remain the odd mavericks that pride themselves on their ability to pull a quick three-pointer out of open play.

Carrying on from the likes of François Steyn and Johnny Wilkinson, a young man by the name of Gabin Lorre has been hitting some pretty audacious nudges in recent times. Showing his class in a recent match for Béziers in the French D2, the left-footed striker of the ball sailed an effortless 60-metre drop goal over the sticks as he attempted to keep his side in contention of the contest.

At only 22 years of age, the young man from Béziers has 13 tries in 22 matches this season, and has now notched over three drop goals in a mightily impressive campaign.

Sadly for Lorre and his teammates, the effort was not enough to save the team from defeat, as they fell 20-14 to the home side, Rouen Normandie. This was a vitally important result for the victors, who currently sit in bottom place of the Pro D2 after 25 games. Béziers will be ruing their chances to move into an automatic promotion space with this loss at the weekend.
