A fascinating look, and listen, at Christian Lealiifano mic'd up during a match

Rugby HQ once again gave us something special last week as they mic'd up Brumbies star Christian Lealiifano in the match against the Crusaders.

As you will hear in the video, the talking that players do during a game is constant and the impacts in the tackle area are nothing short of thunderous.

We love mic'd up players here at RD and believe there should be at least one every game.

During the regular Super Rugby season, Lealiifano scored the most points for the Brumbies with 155; made the most tackles with 129; made the third most metres with 580; the second most carries with 123; and beat the third most defenders with 28.

His total of 155 points means the playmaker was the fifth highest points scorer in the entire league. He also scored the third highest amount of conversions with 30.

Do you think Lealiifano should be starting 10 or 12 for the Wallabies during the Rugby Championship and World Cup? Or do the stats not tell the whole story?

    Agree.

I was thinking about that Stu Dickinson piece the other day. Guessing he must be on the working party that came up with the new laws application guide or is close to people who are. Thought it was a neat PR move by him getting in the press on the same subject a week or two before the announcement. Looked quite the prescient sage.

Interesting 'incident' (non incident) at 1:55 with that high ball.

Looks to be totally fair, attacking player was running to catch and CL jumped to catch, but the collision was awkward he almost landed awkwardly and the attacking player immediately signalled he didn't mean to do that, and again signalled to the referee.

I don't know how it played out, but I'm glad it wasn't immediately pinged. I'm hoping the new laws will continue to correctly assess these areas. Reminds me a lot of an article I posted a link to a while ago about jumpers taking some responsibility for their own safety.

Well I think it sounds hilarious. Haven't an accent quite like that since that baddie in the film Commando.

    How dare you insult Seanny!

Gotta disagree with u there. Sure this is cool, but Ozzie commentating is brutal. Sean whatever his name tries too hard, Phil kearns is a negative old git and in general they sound like they'd rather be watching league. Canadian is worse of course

The TV coverage of rugby union in Australia, seems to be second to none. Certainly from the clips shown here on RD. Another great innovation.

....who said anything about wanting the Aussies to actually win?!?!?

Disagree with u both. Talent doesn't win rwc's, culture and an excellent team ethos does. The brumbies have one of the strongest ones in the world. The. Tahs are good two. The tens lead from the front on both theses squads and make decisions which help their team and don't focus on themselves. The ozzies will be a tahs, brumbies squad with a few others, higginbottom, prop from the Reds, the. Badger fir laughs, etc... Giteau isn't playinfpg as well as foley or Christian. Leave Mitchell in France; Tomane, speight and the badge gig the wings covered. jOC's done nothing to earn a spot.

I found this fascinating to watch (and hear), would definitely love to see more of this kind of thing.

Sorry if this is an obvious one, are metres made from the point when he himself receives the ball? Or are they metres made past the gain line? I'd assume the former, in which case, if you consider he is the play maker and will probably make at least 1 metre every touch of the ball from the back of a breakdown/set piece, I suppose it makes sense he could be quite high up.

Also, while he looks quite small, he is 95kg's which is a fair weight for someone who is just under 5'9", so I'd imagine he is one of those explosive small guys that sneaks under second rows grasps and legs...

I do agree that I'd probably stick Cooper ahead of him. QC is really someone I want to see play for the Aussies, I think he's had a real crap hand dealt to him over the years (possibly self inflicted in some areas), and I'd really like to see him play that weird style he brings.

I'd be starting Giteau or Toomua ahead of him at 12, and Cooper or Foley ahead of him at fly half.

The most tackles one sounds good, but that could be because teams constantly run down his channel because they perceive him as weak tackler. The kicking stats make sense.

I can't understand the amount of metres he's made or the amount of carries- anyone care to try and explain that? I'd have thought given his physique he rarely be used as a carrier
