Alex Sanderson expects England fans to be 'very excited' despite George Ford injury concerns

It has been noted that George Ford has not made the trip to South Africa for Sale's Champions Cup game against the Stormers on Saturday, with Sale Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson confirming that the fly-half is recovering from injury.

“It’s an MCL, a very low-grade MCL which you can stiffen up with injections, some plasma and stiffen your ligaments up", the Sale Sharks boss said. "I’m not going to get medical, technical because I’ll get it wrong – but he is making a good recovery.”

“He didn’t travel [to South Africa with the team], and he didn’t travel because he needs injections in his leg, in his MCL to stiffen it up. I would have loved him to be here – we had quite a long conversation, but he just wants to do what is best, as he would do, by his knee for us, for England if selected, so he had two injections this week.”

The injury was reported to have occurred in Sale's recent match-up against Northampton Saints on the 30th of December - a match that saw the Manchester team fall just short in a very tight game. It appeared to be rather unfortunate injury according to the Sale boss: “Last contact in the air, there’s quite a big collision in the air and he takes one on the side of the knee there as he goes for the ball.”

Sanderson is confident that the injury will not, however, affect Ford's England chances this Six Nations, with the playmaker progressing swiftly from injury. “They’ll be excited, they’ll be very excited. He’ll be fresh,” Sanderson said in response to a question about the concerns of England fans.
