All Black Tamati Ellison arm grabbing with Scotland's Ryan Grant

Here is a quick look at an incident that Scotland fans were unhappy about this past weekend. The outrage came as it looked as though All Black Tamati Ellison grabbed and chicken winged prop Ryan Grant as they both dived for the ball early in the game.

Grant ended up with his arm twisted in an uncomfortable looking position before Tim Visser and Cory Jane got involved. The two players separated and that was it, but fans tweeted furiously about it this week, including some to IRB Chief Executive Officer Brett Gosper.

Gosper, who has taken some serious heat over what some view as a lenient one week ban for Adam Thomson for use of the boot, replied to the request for a citing saying: "Saw it. Understand. Apparently debatable it would warrant red card according to experts."

When this incident happened on Saturday many took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it, including former All Black and friend of Ellison's, Toulouse flyhalf Luke McAlister.

"Cheeky little bit of mma there @TamatiEllison #armbar" joked McAlister.

However, if you watch closely you'll see that it may not be as malicious as it appears, as Grant actually grabbed and held Ellison's arm first (pause video around 21 seconds), which the All Black then tried to wriggle free from, and they both ended up in an awkward, dangerous looking position.

Depending on which side of the fence you sit, you may still view it differently, but with only one angle and no complaints from Scotland, there was quite possibly nothing in it.

As always, please feel free to share your opinion as a comment below.

There is one funny thing about this video - prop asking a wing to come in and defend him from a bully!

Reality: [Clark]'s going to be back playing soon, which is a disgrace after what he did to Hawkins.

100% agree. He should have been banned for life. Most despicable thing I've seen on a rugby pitch. (Well the Saffa that broke Doddie Weir's leg on the 97 Lions tour certainly comes close but even that was not as deliberate and malicious as what that Clark bastard did). What's the news on Rob Hawkins but the way, has his arm - ie part of his body that pays his mortgage) recovered yet?

Cynical and dangerous play there by Ellison. But don't know why we are surprised - the All Blacks have been doing this for years. Could have dislocated the bloke's shoulder there but won't get sited because the AB are untouchables...

Ellison is out of order, the ball isn't close, in fact Ellison has no idea where it is coz his head is down , accordingly he has no right to be twisting the arm behind the players back..... Come down on this hard please CITING commissioner..... Send a clear message to everyone in the sport ....ITS NOT ACCEPTABLE

You've a chance to influence the future....and the history over gouging & spearing & tackles through the neck proves that leniency does not deter.

Calum CLARK has a screw loose, don't compare the two .. CC should be banned for life ! outrageous behaviour, outrageous ban period, says what deliberate arm breaking is ok.....NO NO NO !!

    KIDS are watching !!

I'm on the Scottish side of the fence, so clearly Tamati Elison is a dirty cheat with questionable parentage...

Also, speaking as a Glasgow man, Mr Grant can do no wrong. Frankly, how dare Ellison even touch him? HOW VERY DARE HE??
