All Black thump Wallabies in opening Rugby Championship fixture in Sydney

The All Blacks were in dominant mood as they thumped the Wallabies 42-8 in Sydney on Saturday. The loss for the Wallabies was their worst on home soil since their 31-point loss to the British and Irish Lions in Brisbane in 1966.

As many as 65,328 fans were in attendance at the ANZ Stadium in the hopes of witnessing the home team turn things around after their disappointing series loss to England a few months back, but it wasn't to be as they were totally outplayed by a far superior New Zealand team.

An ankle injury to Matt Giteau early on didn't help things, and the visitors scored four tries for a 32-3 lead at the break. Further injuries to Matt Toomua and Rob Horne, also playing at inside centre, compounded matters.

Nick Phipps scored a consolation try in the 75th minute but the result was sealed a long time before that, as the Wallabies were humiliated at home by their fiercest of rivals.

The All Blacks ran in six tries in total, through Ryan Crotty, Beauden Barrett, Jerome Kaino, Waisake Naholo, Dane Coles and Julian Savea.

"The performance from our boys was outstanding," said skipper Kieran Read post match. "We had to fight really hard and the boys certainly worked for it, so you've got to be pretty happy and have a smile on our face after that."

    I think it's a combination of All Blacks playing well and Wallabies playing poorly. We'll never know how the English will fare against the All Blacks until the next time they play - which is next year.

    As an All Blacks fan, I hope Wallabies sort themselves out and start winning games again. SANZAAR rugby needs healthy competitions where we push each other to greater heights

    So, England fans.

    How do we view this? We aren't anywhere as improved as we thought we were after the June tests considering all the games between us and Australia were closely contested and the team for this game were arguably stronger than any team we faced?

    The All Blacks played such a sublime game and no one would have been able to contain them?

    Or, it was a combination of the All Blacks playing really well and Australia playing poorly?


    Regardless of what people think, it's safe to say that the All Blacks are in a league of their own when it comes to international rugby. All the other teams have a huge amount of work to do.
