Wasps have confirmed the signing of Auckland Blues flyer, Frank Halai. The All Blacks capped winger will join the Coventry club next season. Wasps have put together a great video to showcase Halai, who will no doubt have a big impact in the Premiership.
Following a succesful stint with the New Zealand Sevens team, Tongan-born Halai went on to be the leading try scorer in Super Rugby in 2013. In the same year he made his All Black debut against Japan. He scored a try in that game, but hasn't since added to his solo Test cap.
At 1.95m and 110kg, the well balanced 26-year-old winger has naturally drawn many comparisons with another Wesley College old boy, Jonah Lomu.
"Frank is incredibly strong and powerful, with great pace," said Wasps director of rugby Dai Young.
"Being able to attract players of Frank's calibre, in their prime, is a reflection of the upward curve the club is following. Frank has already shown his potential playing for the All Blacks. Recruiting players of his ability will help us take another step towards that goal."
Wasps have plenty of talent out wide, with the likes of Christan Wade, Sailosi Tagicakibau and Alapati Leiua, but in Halai they add another dimension, and get an experienced All Black Sevens and fifteens capped player in his prime.
