Andy Farrell named Lions coach for 2025 tour of Australia

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has today be unveiled as head coach of the British and Irish Lions tour to Australia in 2025.

Farrell 48 has been appointed as head coach of Ireland since 2019 and has guided the men in green to the number one spot on the World Rankings. Along the way, Ireland went on a 17-game win streak which included a Six Nations Grand Slam and a series win over the All Blacks in New Zealand. His side would come up agonisingly short in their quarterfinal meeting with the All Blacks at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

In terms of Lions experience, Farrell has previously served as an assistant to Warren Gatland on the previous tour to Australia in 2013 and again in 2017 serving as the defence coach.

Such has been Farrell’s level of success with Ireland, he was recently offered and signed a new contract with the IRFU to remain as head coach through the 2027 Rugby World Cup. This new deal will likely have included a clause for that allows him to coach the Lions.

In his absence from the Ireland role, it is believed that assistant coach Simon Easterby will coach the team during the 2025 season.
