Andy Goode's funny interactions with referee Wayne Barnes

Former England number ten Andy Goode has become even more of a cult hero of late, after making a comeback to professional rugby aged 35, and taking to the field looking more like a forward than a back. His boot has done the talking though, with a string of top performances.

Here is a look at Newcastle Falcon's 26-25 victory over Northampton Saints, with Goode and referee Wayne Barnes taking part in a number of very funny exchanges.

After the game Goode tweeted about Barnes and what a top man he is. You can also see a few other funny tweets below that, telling the story somewhat.

Your average 10 isn't expected to jackall, let alone your 35 year old, formerly retired, emergency signing 10 who looks like a 3rd team front rower. Andy Goode is a bloody inspiration!

    Ah, maybe you're right UTLE....

Well judging by my misunderstanding, I might be likely to kick the ball straight out*

    *There is a connection ;)

You might have a point there. I did wonder why he praised him for tackling when he didn't actual make one

I watched a bit of the game and both teams were talking to him... nowhere near as politely as Barnes!

This is what makes rugby great though, Sunday League banter, with professional respect. Clearly Goode is having fun, no surprise that this is the best he has played in a long while. They say rugby is played with the top 2 inches, sometimes that includes the haircut too.

Even the WWE have taken notice of rugby refs!

10/10 Andy, for once I have nothing to say about your Barnet, saying that though.... the combover would have been perfect for the blustery North East... it was a great way to judge wind direction off the tee

Does he not say 'Jackalling as well..'? I appreciate it doesn't make much of a difference but at the very least its less of a jibe as your average 10 isn't particularly expected to jackal.

I'm with 10st10 here, if you can have his skill and still look like a pub 3rd team player then I'm all for buying you a pie... Rupeni CauCau is the same!

I've gotta say, I'm not 100% sure I like this though, I'm sure it doesn't translate so well in short clips and it was probably much more professional, but some of it kinda came across as a couple of Good(e) buddies have a chuckle on the pitch. I'm sure they've crossed paths many times in the past so maybe it's just natural, but I'm not 100% comfortable with players making jibes at referees (re: Marler about referees boots) or referees making jibes at players: 'Tackling as well Goodey"...

Old, slow, aesthetically displeasing, no conditioning or pre-season... won and done it all when it should never have been possible in the modern game when you have the physique of a Darts World Champion.

I respect that far more than any lab built gym monkey. You can eat as many pies as you like if you can do what he does week in and week out.

Nice to see he carried a bit of culture with him back from SA, that "Bloemfontein Boep" is something to behold.
