In the build up to the Rugby Championship, that kicks off next weekend, ARU TV had a chat with some of the legends that took part in what is widely referred to as the Greatest Game Ever Played.

We featured the classic match, between the Wallabies and All Blacks in 2000, with full highlights a few years ago, but now we get a chance to see it from the players' perspective.

Wallaby backs Joe Roff, Stephen Larkham and Rod Kafer talk about their memories of what is without a doubt one of the most incredible games of rugby ever played.

View longer highlights from the match in our featured post from 2008

I agree mate. I can't stand the commentary of Phil Kearns & Greg Martin. Their fervent bias limits the credibility of their comments and as for technical accuracy; well there is none!

The 2000 clash was epic but as other posters have noted this is a subjective issue.

For me, as a fanatical All Black fan there is no better display of skill and teamwork than the defeat of the Wallabies at Athletic Park in Wellington in 1996. One of the great All Black teams in full flight in the worst conditons you can imagine. A decimated muddy track (this was the last Test at this venue) and relentless rain driven by a wind so ferocious it was literally sideways.

The All Blacks made virtually nil mistakes and put the Wallabies to the sword. The most clinical display of wet-weather rugby I have seen and at a skill-level verging on sublime.

    Youtube's got it :)

1-Yes you're right, wales v scotland was a great game

2-that being better than this match is a subjective opinion of yours, which I understand and respect

3-I'm sorry, but there is no way in hell this match sucked. It was a great display of rugby, a hard fought contest between the two greatest teams in the world at that time.

    Cheers :)

Have never seen this game in its entirety just plenty of highlight footage..It does seem like it would've been an incredible game to watch live, especially being from either of Aus or NZ...For me though personally best game ever, in any sport, is very subjective and I've never seen a match which struck a nerve with me like SA vs Lions second test 2009...I tend to like very physical matches and I don't think you'll find a match where both teams put there body on the line quite like they did that day...

Honourable mentions for me incl Leinster vs Toulouse HC 1/4 final 2006, Leinster vs Northhampton HC cup final, Eng vs Aus WC final...really hungover right now so can't think of any more at moment although there definitely are, particularly involving the all blacks...

    Nice.

Hard to see this game ever being surpassed for quality of play, atmosphere, excitement, scoreline swings.

110k sounds a massive crowd too - is that still a record!?
