Antoine Burban's huge covering tackle on Perpignan's Watisoni Votu

Stade Francais beat Perpignan 19-12 in the Top 14 on Sunday afternoon after all their points, other than a penalty try, were scored by Jerome Fillol. Flanker Antoine Burban was outstanding for the Parisians on the day, making turnovers and tackles all over the park.

This incredible covering tackle was one that he made on Fijian centre Watisoni Votu, who beat the first tackler as Perignan attacked, but was absolutely smashed by Burban as he stepped inside.

Let's hope we see more great tackles throughout 2014. On that note, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones. It's been a good festive season and we'll be back in the full swing of things soon.

Ah, ok, I get it now Colombes. I'm definitely a fan of Jason White and Betson.

    nop, you got it.
i prefer that kind of classic tackle than rugbyleague inspired tackles

but people will always prefer to debate on "whether it's legal or not"
    rather to appreciate classic stuff.
in that way, hardmen like betsen or jason white are my heroes

    sorry if u misread me.
    rusty new year ;)
i say the exact contrary. i'm annoyed by people describing this kind of tackle as "unimpressive" when it's textbook!
it will be my 2014 line: be brutal and legal, rather to try illegal "impressive" charges

The funniest thing is the straddling position they end up in, Not only did the tackler not release, but he then gets a facefull of 'tackle' ! munch munch ...

Almost as erotic as the Exeter Chiefs knob-squeezers !!!

Hard to see intentions from that far away. Would have loved to see it in cloe up.

solid, spectacular lookingif _fairly_ routine tackle for that level, crowd responded to its impact in the stadium and that's not insignificant - and that was quite a funny ending - apt considering the vista....

DrG: my understanding of what Columbes said, is that people expect to see tip tackles here on RD, almost as the norm now- he's not saying that tackle was a tip tackle. He's perhaps decrying the fact that the illegal is more sought after by viewers than the solid legal tackle, though I could be misunderstanding Columbes....

Eitherways, its noteworthy but hardly suprising that visitors are that way...

remember the old newspaper saying: "if it bleeds it leads"

Sorry Colombes, I don't understand what you mean. Your English is normally much clearer than that post, are you saying this was a tip-tackle?

I just had a look back, and it looks to me like the Stade player was the one trying to block the perpignan man

I'm most impressed by the no 6 getting there in the first place, great work rate!

Reading some comments, u can see that people are used to appreciate illegal branded tip-tackles, thinking their are regulars.

Great tackle. It will probably make the next TS&RB. Nice bit of obstruction in midfield too, somewhere at 0.08/0.09.

Thanks for posting this RD. And best wishes for 2014!

with not much rugby content to cover at the moment, this is more appreciated than nothing. and try and muster up a sense of humour for the music at the end. not meant to be top quality music... just a bit of fun

Oh and p.s you miserable bunch, it was a fantastic covering tackle... If the 6 misses that tackle it's a try!

Yeh well done FREE Rugbydump for posting something that NOT EVERYONE agrees on and enjoys!

How about you take note as to what all us NON FEE-PAYERS want from the site that we pay to run....

...or on second note, keep posting RUGBY topics and the rest of us fans of the game and this website will be grateful that you continue to keep us informed of what is happening outside of our own rugby bubble...
