Argentina flanker Marcos Kremer was at the centre of controversy during Saturday’s Test match against Australia in Townsville.
The 24-year-old was shown a yellow card in the second half by Matt Carley for a trip on Wallabies full back Reece Hodge at Queensland County Bank Stadium, which following a review by the TMO showed the Stade Français forward change direction to prevent Hodge from advancing.
However just a few minutes earlier in same half Kremer put in a naughty cheap shot on Wallabies winger Marika Koroibete which went unpunished by the officials despite being questioned by the commentators.
Moments after Carley had blown his whistle to stop he game Kremer led with his shoulder into Koroibete with no attempt to wrap, which bounced the winger onto his backside.
Carley immediately blew up again to prevent the situation from escalating as Wallabies players swarmed the referee to complain about the challenge.
One Stan Sport commentator said: “I’ve got my favourite pair of glasses on tonight, and that does not look like an attempt to wrap.”
In the end the officials had a choice of offences to send Kremer to the bin for and he was replaced in the 67th minute as Los Pumas struggled to a 27-8 defeat. Full math highlights are available below:
“We’re really pleased to get the win. We drew these games last year so really pleasing for us to take a step forward,” said Wallabies captain Michael Hooper.
“Argentina can be a really dangerous team so I think we came out of the block really well there today, everyone pulling their strings a bit.
“I think we let them back in the game a little bit there with some ill-discipline and we didn’t execute our maul that great. I think we could’ve put them to the sword a few times and we let that slip. Definitely some stuff to work on as we continue in our journey.”
