Argentina stunned Ireland with a convincing 43-20 victory to book their place in the Semi Finals, where they will face Australia next weekend. Match highlights above, with more to follow soon.

    Another Argentinian here. As @flacointheus says, those wounds are not so open nowadays, at least among rugby fans. The animosity to England is propelled by our current populist government, that revived a fake nationalism to cover up its corruption.

    I have no idea how some people could peg Ireland as favourites to win this.....
    I was at Wembley for the NZ-Argentina game and the Pumas have been superb since the beginning of the WC. Way better than the Irish, whose gameplan has been resting way too much on Sexton imo. Really looking forward to that Argentina/Australia game !!

    About the Pumas/France rivalry, I was just talking about it in another thread, I think it's a shame. France, Italy and Argentina are the only latin countries in the anglo world of rugby, we should stick together. I know I'll be supporting Argentina for the rest of the competition because 1, they are playing brilliantly and 2, I want to see non-english speakers succeed.

    I'm with Arg because of that feeling. NZ, SA, Aus are all big game and it'd be grand to see Arg take a scalp in the semis and make it to the finals. I don't know if they can do it, but they have my backing purely because they're the least likely to do it. :)

    Clearer heads, taken opportunities etc, I didn't mean it as in "they were only just lucky to win"....

    Not a sore loser at all, but ever heard of the term bad winner?

    At the end of the day, every team bar 1 will be knocked out, and in such a rushed (in a good way) competition, there are bound to be teams that are rightly knocked out, that could have done better had their heads been on, they had less injuries etc etc..

    Look at rwc 2011... France was a team that couldn't beat Italy at some point near to the rwc (before or after) they were the most inconsistent team in the competition, but they nearly, and bar jouberts interesting decisions, should have won it... But luck was on NZ side and the home nations won it and as a rugby fan I felt proud for them.

    I agree with jimmy23. I'm an Argentinian and most of rugby players and fans dont mix politics with rugby. Also, I have made several English friends through rugby, don't know why but cannot say the same about Aussies ;)
    In terms of rugby rivalry, I think the Pumas probably feel France is their biggest rival. Just my opinion. cheers

    The Top gear came here with plates that made references to the war like "FKL 1982" and that's what cause the incidents. We don't hate English people, buy we don't like their goverment policy on keeping the Malvinas islands.
    And I think that most people with support us because we are the underdogs in this semifinals

    Ha ha. The Argies hate you plenty. Just watch the Top Gear Patagonia special if you need any reminding. I'm not saying it's all right or justified, but there's a fair bit of bitterness still brewing down there.

    Are you sure about that? The Falklands/Malvinas business is still an open wound. Certainly more raw than the SA animosity which stems in part from the concentration camps of the Anglo-Boer War...

    The Kiwis and Wallabies mainly fancy the win against their colonial overseers, it's all quite petty in contrast, though maybe that's a problem...

    Well now that all of the NH teams are out, my next team to support is Argentina. Largely going off the fact that out of all the SH teams, they hate us (the English) the least :P

    This is the best Puma team we've ever seen. Once Sexton was ruled out, I marked them down as favourites against Ireland. And they are a big threat to Australia next.

    I do think Sanchez will be cited, but given the schedules the citing commissioners handle I doubt we will know the end result of sanction.

    Having said that, WOW what a performance, I actually think that the absence of POC, SOB, POM, Sexton and even Payne where felt but would they have influenced the way in which Argentina stunned Ireland in the beginning?

    People mention how the Argentine back-line has gained confidence, speed and flair. This is true, however it is obvious that playing in the RC has given the Pumas a boost in terms of physicality. Just look at their n`5 or Matera. Both under 23 years old, but immensely dynamic and physical. How the Pumas bullied the breakdown was very impressive, and if Australia disregard how Argentina are peaking I think we might have a surprise finalist.

    Nevertheless I believe that the margin in the end was not fair on the brave Irish comeback. If you think about it, Ayerza had a tough time in front of Ross (debateable penalties were awarded against him, but after Craig J`s afternoon I do not want to start another Referee bloodbath). Henry and Murphy played very well. But Madigan was not up to standard.

    Argentina have a very special team, impressive game plan and a unique passion that might just get them all the way. We will have to wit.

    I've been really impressed with Argentina in this tournament, such power, pace and determination in their phase play and a willingness to always go forward. I'll be supporting them for the remainder of the tournament (now that literally every other team i've backed has been ejected!!!)

    Ahhh Dr. G don't be a sore loser. In two of the quarters the northern hemisphere teams were played off the park and there is no amount of luck that would have helped Ireland or France.

    There was bad calls in the Australia Scotland game for sure but I think most of us would agree it would have been an upset and a poor representation of who is the better team is.

    Lastly Wales SA could have gone either way and SA took their chance.

    As an Irish man I would like to send my congrats to the Argentinians. They were the better side and I'll be supporting them for the rest of the tournament.

    Argentina's have had the packs and some good, even great, number tens for a long time, but their general back play has really sharpened up in the RCh. I'm sure the All Blacks already knew that but they were still caught on the hop when the Pumas came roaring out of the blocks in the first game. I thought the Irish might roll right back over the Pumas, once they got going, but the way Argentina took the pressure and then came again was impressive. I still think Aust in the SF, but nothing would surprise me.

    ......That all the teams that have had luck on their side and the bounce of the ball are through to the semis in a competition where their are a vast amount of variables, good calls, bad calls, injuries, and so far an extremely high number of controversial decisions and bans all play in the rugby championship....?

    Maybe I just imagined that they were bigger because they drove the Irish players backwards in nearly every tackle. I think in the backline though there was a difference in size. Earls and the Kearneys were just manhandled all day. Taking the ball statically and having uninventive back play doesn't help.

    Funny thing is, they weren't actually bigger. the Pumas scrum gave away a lot of weight to the Irish. And guys like Cordero and Sanchez are small backline players. But they certainly played like they were much bigger.

    Dear God. I can't remember the last time Ireland were beaten so soundly. The Argentinians were just bigger, faster and more skilful. It was actually embarrassing. Having a kicker who hooks the ball every time and can't deal with pressure kicks doesn't help, either.

    The only positive was Luke Fitzgerald showing why he should have been starting.

    Incredible performance by the Pumas. When I saw Creedy in the tunnel before they ran out, I knew they were up for it.
