Argentina player ratings: Gutsy display from Argentina falls just short

Argentina concluded their World Cup campaign in a manner reminiscent of how they began, falling to England once more, this time by a narrow margin of three points, with a final score of 26-23.

The Pumas delivered a stronger performance than their match against the All Blacks in the semi-final and improved upon their showing in the opening round against a 14-man England team. However, despite their efforts, they couldn't muster enough to secure victory.

15. Juan Cruz Mallia: 6

Exciting when on the ball, constantly caused problems in the England defence.

14. Emiliano Boffelli: 6

Solid under the high ball, struggled to open up the English defence on the attack though.

13. Lucio Cinti: 5.5

Spent the match defending well, but failed to open up in attack.

12. Jeronimo de la Fuente: 5

Similar scenes to his centre partner, will need to work on attacking prowess to compete at top level.

11. Mateo Carreras: 7

Decided to run over the England defence at one stage as opposed to weaving through it like normal. A talented player, wasted in this team.

10. Santiago Carreras: 6

Performed well to an extent, just failed to exhibit the x-factor that could truly dismantle the England defence.

9. Tomas Cubelli: 4.5

He's had better, a performance littered with mistakes.

1. Thomas Gallo: 6

Early scrum struggled, but improved as time went on.

2. Julian Montoya (c): 6.5

Put his body on the line. A real leader by action.

3. Francisco Gómez Kodela: 4.5

Same as Gallo.

4. Guido Petti Pagadizabal: 6.5

Solid. Will be pleased with his performance.

5. Pedro Rubiolo: 6

Performed well, but failed to reach the extra gear required.

6. Juan Martin Gonzalez: 8

Outstanding in the lineout. Argentina's best player.

7. Marcos Kremer: 5.5

Beast on the tackle count, but will be dissapointed with some of his simple errors.

8. Facundo Isa: 5.5

Not as effective as he knows he can be, will be slightly disappointed with the performance.

Replacements: 4

Allowed England to regain control of a match that was within their grasp. The impact made was largely negative, will all be dissapointed.
