Sale Sharks winger Chris Ashton has been named in the starting lineup for England to face France in round two of the Six Nations.

It will be Ashton’s first Six Nations game since 2013 and the 31-year-old has played five test matches against Les Bleus, winning three but failing to score in any of the games.

Ashton has scored 20 tries for England in 43 test matches and seven tries in 17 games in the Six Nations. The former Toulon, Saracens and Northampton player made his England debut against France in the same competition in 2010.

In the opening round of this year’s tournament Jack Nowell, who Ashton has replaced on the right wing, ran more metres than any other England player, earned two turnovers and made seven tackles.

"We have gone for Chris Ashton on the wing. We think he might sneak us a try early in the game," said England head coach Eddie Jones. "Jack Nowell was brilliant against Ireland and he'll play a significant role for us off the bench.”

Here are some of Ashton’s best moments for club and country:

He could save a bus full of new born kittens, stop Brexit, and pimp-slap Trump... I would still think he is a twat. I'm sure he is a nice enough bloke off the field, but from what we have seen, the way the media has portrayed it, and his own actions...Jones has replaced a "total ball player" with a one trick wing pony. Ashton will take 9.75/10 chances. May is the same. Neither of them are going to create chances or put others into space. They have both had a few outstanding individual efforts against The Big 3 down south, capitalising on turnovers and mistakes... but for both of them, their basic contact and distribution skills are sometimes found lacking for International rugby. Sprinters with positional awareness. Nowell's rugby intelligence is through the roof. Positional specialists are a dying breed... Learn to play all 15 positions or get off the field!

'Neither of them are going to create chances or put others into space.'I Think May would disagree!

Odd choice. But ashton is a twat but his killer instinct speaks for him.Anyway, regarding France will play with a back 3 Huget-Fickou-Penaud all playing in wrong positions, it won't be a big issue.

A strange decision if there is no injury. Nowell should be pretty pee’d off
