Bath legend calls it a day on stellar career

Former Bath and England fullback Nick Abendanon has called it a day after 18 years of top-flight rugby.

The talented South African-born player was a regular at Bath from 2005-2014, taking on the mantle from Matt Perry as the west country side's premier fullback. His ability to break the line and keep calm under the high ball made him a fan favourite with the black, white and blue of Bath, with many fans expressing their gratitude and admiration for the former player on social media. Affectionately known as "Bendy" by many fans, the response from fans has been hugely positive:

"Brilliant player always gave his all for us hope he has a good retirement! Thank u Bendy!!"

"Thank you for some amazing memories! Enjoy whatever the next chapter brings."

"Congrats Bendy! Probably the best human we have the privilege to call our friend. Endless memories! Cheers Bendy Nick Abendanon"

"One of my all time favourite Bath players. Thank you for your great contributions to the club. Wish him well for his future away from playing rugby."

According to reports, Abendanon, who has ended his career with French side Vannes,  is said to be contemplating a career in coaching and has allegedly been offered a position as a skills coach by Bayonne.

Bayonne supporters will be pleased to hear this news, as they have been eagerly awaiting a busy summer transfer window. With the start of the new season on the horizon, the club has been putting in a lot of effort to bolster its team and enhance its coaching staff, in order to build on the commendable performances from last season.
