Best Tries of the Top 14 - Round 18

Here is the latest Top Ten Tries compilation from Canal+ in France, focussing on the always entertaining Top 14. This week's video features Round 18, which took place a while back, but produced some very good tries.

As you may or may not know, these are put together by the television station and get posted the following week, or round, after the tries are actually scored. Therefore this one was only shown a few days ago, despite it being from matches a while back.

There's plenty to enjoy though, including a try from a match that was featured here on RD, Stade Francais vs Toulon. That was the game where Steffon Armitage had a stormer, and Matt Giteau stepped up at the end to slot a touchline conversion, earning Toulon a 19-19 draw.

The first two tries in this compilation come from intense forward battles up front, but then there's other tries which are more free flowing, including one by Yves Donguy for Toulouse that comes from some tremendous build up play.

It was also great to see Juan Martin Hernandez, an incredibly gifted player who has always been injury prone, score a well taken try for Racing Metro in their victory over Lyon.

One of the tries with some of the best touches was scored by Perpignan, and then against Bayonne former France flyhalf David Skrela scored a try you possibly wouldn't expect from him. Northampton fans keep an eye for Bruce Reihana, who put a neat kick in for winger Blair Connor, and for genuine gas, check out Frank Romanet's try, which comes in at top spot.

It's a full ten minutes of action and has a bit of everything, so kick back and enjoy this one.

Might have only sneaked in at #10 but quite refreshing to see an old-fashioned forwards try on one of these lists. Actually 9 and 8 also are based on solid forward graft too. Nice to see credit where it's due (or is it just the case that there were fewer flamboyant tries scored in this round!?).

Absolutely awesome defence. For this and so many other reasons, not least the conspicuous absence of a natural openside, Rob Andrew and Stuart Lancaster really need to have a chat with Toulon about making Steffon Armitage available for England selection.
