Best Tries of the Top 14 - Round 24

This weekend is yet another busy one in the world of rugby, with not only domestic finals, but Sevens too. It's been a fairly quiet week on RD, for various reasons, so here's a video of some top quality tries in the Top 14 as we attempt to catch up.

Last night was the first of the RaboDirect Pro12 semi-finals, between Ospreys and Munster, so we'll get highlights of that posted shortly. Leinster and Glasgow Warriors face off later today.

Also today are the two Aviva Premiership semi-finals, so keep a look out for those, and not too far away there's the London Sevens. Super Rugby continues down south too, with Round 12, so we'll get highlights of the latest games up soon, and then in France the Top 14 heads into another crucial weekend, with play off places still up for grabs.

The tries video below was broadcast last weekend, and features the top ten tries from the week before, Round 24. There's some excellent efforts, with the number one try going to Wallaby legend George Smith, who finished off a very impressive Stade Francais try against Perpignan.

    @stroudos: yup. #10 was the clincher.

    I've given up thinking of these as _in _any_way in order thou. We've seen these over the years, and its great to watch french rugby, but the top 10 with the dodgy filler music is never, ever, in order! Its completely random.

    Superb handling in that clip, and what a kick through.

    Well I'd admit ordinarily that does sound like highly irregular behaviour for a rugby match, but I reckon I'd drink in the atmosphere and it would all be fine. The Pilou-Pilou especially looks awesome. Love the way the whole crowd gets involved. And to top it all, at the end of the pilout pilou, they always seem to be burst into the tune of "Ingerlund Ingerlund Ingerland".

    You'll enjoy a match in Mayol if you go there supporting the RCT. You might be a bit disappointed by Toulon's fans who are most often booing, shouting (sometimes insulting) towards the opposing team.
    Don't go there expecting any gentleman-like behaviour as respecting the other team's kicker, because - being from the very South East of France and supporting the RCT too - this is how we behave in a stadium. So do I and in my opinion this is our role (the home's crowd) to do whatever we can to help our team win the game. After all we are the 16th man, aren't we ?

    However it can be kind of an exotic experience for an Englishman and nevertheless once the game's over, animosity is gone and like every other place where rugby takes a huge place in people's life, everybody will glad to share a beer and discuss with you.

    Definitely. He's slotted in very nicely hasn't he.

    Great club Toulon. Look at the massive names they've brought in and all have settled in without arrogance or attitude. Christ, they even seem to have tamed Bakkies Botha!

    The fans are great too. I watched a Heiny Cup group game v London Irish at the Madejski and the Toulon fans were brilliant. Incredibly passionate, but very intelligent as well, all of them seemed to have a decent appreciation of the game. Would bloody love to get down to the Mayol some day.

    Right. Sat down to watch this and was totally blown away by #10. Thought, "blimey we're in for a treat here if this is the least amazing of the bunch!".

    Some cracking tries there, but I don't think any of the others surpassed #10, which had an awesome kick chase by Palisson, textbook support by Armitage et al, nice little dink through by Wilkinson, slick handling from the big men and a cracking finish by Giteau. Easily my favourite from this selection.

    French rugby is great. They have the right mix of enterprise and grit. My favorite try was #9 the inside peel off the line out.

    i agree, mind you the ref has a pretty good view of the passes so may well be the camera angle, i remember the same being true of a sexton pass to o'driscoll i think it was in the 6 nations a couple of years ago. 1:57 in this video looks questionable as well...

    the handling and kicking in this video is phenomenal, the french do play VERY attractive rugby

    Don't know if it's the camera angle but for N5 it looked like there were a number of forward passes in the build up.
    On a seperate not, saw Marvyn O'Conner with the French U20's last year, he seems to have beefed up quite bit!

    and french commentators just dont care about foreign names, just pronounce everything french and you are good :)
