Breaking: Barbeary receives ban following sending off against Racing 92

Alfie Barbeary has found himself on the end of a ban following his red card against Racing 92 in the Investec Champions Cup on Sunday.

His red card was a result of being issued with a second yellow card in the final minutes of Bath's close victory at the Recreation Ground. His first yellow card just five minutes into the game was thought to have been deserving of a red card by many, with commentators, pundits and fans all suggesting that he was fortunate to only spend ten minutes on the sidelines.

His second was for a leading arm, which eventually sealed his fate on the day

Following Independent Disciplinary Committee decision, an EPCR statement said: “The committee upheld the first citing complaint finding that Barbeary had tackled Spring in a dangerous manner, making contact with his neck area. It then decided that although Barbeary’s challenge on Le Garrec was an act of foul play and that the match officials were not wrong in issuing him with a yellow card, the player’s actions did not warrant a red card and the citing complaint was dismissed.”

The ban for the initial has since been determined to have deserved a red card, which has landed Barbeary with a three match ban - halved from six matches due to previously good behaviour.
