Former England and British & Irish Lions winger Ugo Monye was one of the game’s most clinical finishers during his 13 years of professional rugby.
Having made nearly 250 appearances for Harlequins throughout his club career and with 83 tries Monye will forever be a Quins legend.
Although he’s best known to the rugby world today for his regular punditry appearances and commentary roles, Monye had a glistening career for both club and country.
Arguably Monye’s most iconic moment in rugby came during the third Test of the 2009 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa when he scored an amazing intercept try in Johannesburg.
Throughout his career Monye earned 14 caps for England plus two Lions Test appearances and was a member of the Harlequins squad that won the Premiership in 2012.
The following four-minute montage demonstrates the very best moments of Monye’s career and both club and international level starting with his iconic intercept try against South Africa.
Commenting on that score in 2009, Monye said: “13 years’ worth of rugby for this seven seconds. But if I had to do those 13 years again to get those seven seconds back, I would do it over and over again.”
Upon retirement aged just 31, Monye said: "It is a decision I have been thinking about for a long time and one that I haven't taken lightly.
"I have had an unbelievable 13 years at Quins and look back on my career with no regrets. I can honestly say that the one thing I am most proud of is that I have been a one-club man."
Harlequins director of rugby Conor O'Shea added: "All involved with Harlequins will miss Ugo once he retires but I know he will be around the club in some capacity for many years to come.
"He will always be one of the true greats of this club, and also one of the great ambassadors of the game."
