Carlin Isles gym footage shows fascinating speed exercise

The USA’s Carlin Isles is widely regarded as the fastest player on the World Rugby Sevens Series circuit, if not all of rugby. Indeed, on his Instagram profile, he is even the self professed fastest rugby player in the world, and few would argue with that.

The 29-year-old is often uploading footage online of his work in the gym, and what he does to maintain and improve his speed. Most exercises are orientated around explosive power, which is understandable.

However, his most recent video is one of his strangest and niche exercises he has shared to date. Most of his exercises are variations of common moves, but this one is very particular.

"Direction of force is everything!" he explains.

The USA 7s team will undoubtedly have some of the best and most innovative scientists and performance coaches on their team, and Isles’ name speaks for itself, so maybe this move is worth taking note of.

And if his recent sprinting form is anything to go by, there's definitely method to what looks - to most of us regular folk - like madness.
