Carlos Spencer's eye-catching debut showed exactly what we had to look forward to

Carlos Spencer was on superb form when he made his All Blacks Test debut in 1997 in Wellington, scoring 33 points from number ten, as the home side romped to a 93-8 win over Argentina.

Of the 14 tries scored, there were some brilliant efforts that Spencer himself played a part in, including two neat assists for Tana Umaga, and a bullet long pass to the great Christian Cullen for an 80m score.

There were skilful touches all day long, as King Carlos started off a career that saw him earn 44 Test caps and garner a reputation, alongside his play with the Blues, as one of the games great entertainers.
