In what should be an incredibly exciting time for South African players, there appears to be some trying to ruin the fun. Rugby is known for its friendly banter before and after games, but that is as far as it should be taken...banter.
There is no room in this sport, nor any other, for threats of violence or death. The players are performing in a tournament they would have dreamt about appearing in since they were children, playing for the country they love, nothing ought to ruin the experience for them.
Unfortunately, there are occasionally those that don't appear to get the memo. Cobus Reinach has sadly been on the receiving end of what appears to be a frustrated French 'fan' who has taken his grievances out on the Instagram private message of the Springbok scrum-half.
The person in question wrote the message in French, which loosely translates to: "Dirty son of a b**** I hope that when you return to Montpellier you get murdered by French people on the ground gang of thieves easy to win a title by cheating" before then being told to "go to death".
Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus shared the message on Instagram, coming to Reinach's support, saying: "Unfortunately these threats was made to Cobus Reinach!! Its not nice and upsets a mom and dad to see things like that said about their boy! But we are not gonna whine, we will just move on!!! Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie"
Erasmus was also keen to point out a quote attributed to him through Twitter profile '@ItsBilaso' was fabricated. The quote read: "Ireland and France Rugby can still make it to the Rugby World Cup Finals, They Just have to buy the tickets "
