Comedian nails ironic rugby tradition

In the uproarious world of comedy, no topic is off-limits, including sports fans' peculiar habits. Recently, a comedian took the stage to poke fun at the curious behaviour of rugby enthusiasts during crucial moments in a game. The punchline? The hilarious spectacle of fans shushing each other while glued to the television, especially when a player is about to kick a goal.

Generally considered to be a tradition in Ireland, the habit of certain fans quieting others whilst watching a kick on TV has long been debated as a ridiculous tradition.

The comedian kicked off his routine by highlighting the irony of rugby fans attempting to maintain pin-drop silence in pubs, as if the fate of the game rested on their hushed whispers. The absurdity reached new heights when he delved into the fact that televisions were invented nearly a century ago, and yet, some fans seem to believe that their hushed tones will somehow influence the trajectory of the ball through the posts.

With a twinkle in his eye, the comedian couldn't resist pointing out the sheer ridiculousness of the situation. "Handre Pollard was about to take a penalty, and some said shush!" he quipped before mentioning the fact that Pollard was in Paris whilst they were in a pub in Dublin.

The essence of the joke revolved around the sincere belief of some viewers that their respectful silence might just be the lucky charm needed for a successful kick. In reality, the comedian reminded us, the player on the screen is blissfully unaware of the hushed tones emanating from the living rooms around the world. It's a classic case of fans meaning well but missing the mark.

Who else does this 😂
