Compilation of the unpunished Teboho Mohoje high tackles against Argentina

Springbok flanker Teboho 'Oupa' Mahoje made a number of high tackles against Argentina in Salta but suffered no consequences on the day. He has since been issued a warning, which frustrated fans as they felt he deserved to at least be penalised on more than one occasion.

Citing Commissioner Warnings are issued post match for foul play incidents that are very close to, but do not meet the Red Card threshold (in the opinion of the Citing Commissioner).

The warning came after he was found to have contravened Law 10.4(e) Dangerous tackling around an opponents neck, for a tackle that he made in the 49th minute of the match (the headlock, as seen in the video below).

Argentina fans at the ground and online were extremely unhappy with what went on, especially considering that Mohoje's tackling technique led to him clashing heads with star player Juan Martin Hernandez, who had to leave the field late in the game.

If you missed the game or haven't seen it yet, this compilation shows all of the tackles, including two from the first Test in South Africa.

Argentina won in Salta, edging the contest 26-24 for a first ever win at home vs the Springboks.

    This is two games worth right? It's a shocking number of careless and dangerous tackles. What more does the citing commissioner need?

    I would just add one other thought. Had this been the ABs, we would have undoubtedly heard the "All Blacks get all the breaks" crowd here. This is one example that shows it's closer to the truth that the tier one nations overall generally get the rub and not just NZ.

    Inexcusable. Clearly the ref did not do his job, but they also need to change their laws for citing and punishing players if Mohoje can get away with this many high tackles because none of the individual tackles were deemed worthy of a red card. There are enough high tackles in this video for Mohoje to be sent off several times over. If he had a 2-3 week ban, I think this poor tackling technique/foul play stops here.

    Can we get clarification, is all this being ruled by SANZAR and therefore cannot be touched by World Rugby - formerly the IRB?

    It really seems there is a big gap in the laws, which is surprising given that the referees are the same in both....

    It's not that I'm bothered one way or another... it's just I'd rather get some clarification as to whether I can remove someones head in a game and not get a ban before I go ahead and do it...

    I've commented against some Argentine fans' everyone's-against-us mindset, because it's not true. But refereeing this poor wouldn't encourage any Puma fan to see things differently. I lost count, but there has to be half a dozen tackles there where you would normally just expect a whistle.

    Just imagine if Argentina would have lost.... Because of that last tackle, a prop (the last substitution left in the Argentine bench) had to come in for Hernandez. Argentina won the game with 4 props on the field (one even played second row in 2 or 3 scrums), a second row replacement, Petti, playing flanker. Landajo had to move from scrum half to fly half and the center of the field ended up being composed by the replacement center, Iglesias and a third row replacement, Ortega.

    How Argentina pulled of a win under these conditions is simply mind blowing. Lets not forget that two weeks ago they could not even close a game in Neilspruit, that was clearly won. The Pumas simply amazed me this weekend, stepped up the plate and finished a Springbok side that simply just look like a pack of thugs (as Eddie Jones said a couple days ago).

    I'd actually disagree with you in the instance of the hit which was replayed at 1:54, where the player takes the high ball then runs into traffic... that could have been deemed a swinging arm to the jaw/head, which has resulted in red cards before....

    It's a shame the championship can't find any referees at the moment. I did half an hour of it as part of my level one coaching. Perhaps I could volunteer my services?

    Even though no individual fouls deserve a red card, but as @whiteafrcan wrote upthere at least 4 tackles were worth of a yellow card, so mohoe wouldn't have finished the game. I really think the citing commissioner should see the whole game and actions this player made, not individually. Is is not the same to make 1 mistake (1 yellow card) than 4. Hernandez could have been seriously injured. Sanzaar should try to protect more the players

    Very dangerous action of the player and... the ref.
    If he had sanctioned Mohoje early in the game and threatened him with a next yellow card offence, the guy would may have corrected his poor technique.

    ....This is where the game of old came out in all it's glory... you'd get a player the likes of Martin Johnson, Bakkies Botha, Jamie Cudmore etc - step up and throw one hell of a hook at Mohoje... all hell would break loose, chances are the 'enforcer' would get a yellow card, but Mohoje, if still standing, would be meandering off the field trying to look out of his one good eye and would know not to do it again...

    Only problem with todays game is that it would end up with a red card, some horrendous ban and probably a police investigation into a supposed hate crime.....

    Doesn't look great. Clearly a bit too pumped up to remember how to tackle correctly. Technique apparently not as important as being a massive lump anymore!

    Absolute joke. Citing commissioner can only issue a warning because no single tackle was over the red card threshold, even though at least four tackles warranted clear yellows and so a red card would have been the cumulative result.

    I'm all for aggressive defence, and the odd wraparound the shoulde that slides upwards isn't always worthy on penalising... But this guy constantly and deliberately grabs people around the neck to force them downwards and prevent an offload, that's no accident or poor technique there. Really should be taken to task over that, if I were the Pumas captain I'd have been asking the ref when he was going to start penalising.
