The perfect 10. Dan Carter finally retired in 2020 after a career that saw him become arguably the greatest fly-half of all time.
In his prime, he was known for his incredible game management, kicking skills, smooth handling, and running ability.
Carter played the majority of his club career for the Crusaders, but he had stints over in France and Japan during the latter stages of his playing days.
The three-time World Rugby Player of the Year holds the record for the most international points scored of all time, as well as multiple other personal and team accolades.
Back in 2005, Carter was establishing himself thoroughly as the world's best player. Backed up by an incredibly talented All Blacks side, there was no team in world rugby that could handle the brilliance of the man.
This was shown particularly against the star-studded British and Irish Lions team that year. Headed up by world cup winning coach Sir Clive Woodward, the combined side travelled over to New Zealand with multiple world cup winners in their side, as well as some truly famous names.
Despite losing the first test against the All Blacks, the Lions came into the second confident of redemption. They had selected the great Jonny Wilkinson at fly-half in an effort to counteract the then unplayable Carter.
This was not the way the game played out however, Carter unleashed one of the greatest performances of his career, and one of the finest number 10 performances the world has ever seen.
