Daniel du Plessis awkwardly sent to the sinbin whilst knocked out

Stormers centre Daniel du Plessis won't be thanking referee Michael Fraser anytime soon after being sinbinned while receiving treatment for a head injury.

Du Plessis took out former Stormers player Marcel Brache in the air as the Western Force winger went up for a high ball, but unfortunately for the centre he copped a facefull of Brache's hip, similar to the CJ Stander incident last month.

Referee Fraser then showed Du Plessis the yellow with the player still on the floor, saying "It's a little unfortunate that he's obviously going off, but the facts are he's taken the man in the air. He's not a realistic catcher... landed dangerously, so it's a yellow card.".

You can actually see the grimace on Fraser's face when he gets the card out.

Du Plessis was stretchered off and didn't return to the field. The Stormers went on to finish 22-3 in front however, picking up a bonus point win and setting up a playoff place.

    I agree, standing in front of a train and saying "THIS IS MY TRAIN TRACK"... and expecting the train to stop in time is a pretty stupid thing to do - or it's a "Do at your own risk" type of thing....

    Same as jumping into another player!

    I'm still not convinced by the argument that the attacking team has to have the sole duty of care.

    IF you look at so many of these incidents, some of them are due to a last split second jump for the ball.... If we want to talk about reckless endangerment then we need to look no further than a player that throws himself into the air in the pathway of another is endangering themselves - as well as having their hips/knees etc at the head level of another player, is endangerment of the opposition.

    This incident in particular was an example of a split second last second decision... If we want to play the game of "defending player is untouchable" then we hype back to the same old tongue in cheek/tongue not in cheek comment of "ban jumping", or have that BS free catch thing!
