Delicate reverse kick leads to entertaining try for star studded team in Japan

Toyota Verblitz and Hino Red Dolphins played out an entertaining Japanese Top League round 2 playoff clash at the Prince Chichibu Memorial Ground in Tokyo, with some great skill on show.

South African number ten Lionel Cronje made headlines a few years back when he pulled off an incredible, and rather amusing, piece of skill when playing for the Southern Kings in Super Rugby.

He's since moved on to a successful career in Japan but for the Kings he always showed some neat touches, including that moment when he did an around the back dummy, which actually led to a try.

On this occasion he had his entire backline tuned in with him and knowing what was coming next, as he spotted a bit of space behind the Red Dolphins defensive line.

It was touch and go with the offside line, but as he made the slightly no-look reverse kick, centre Male Sa'u timed his run beautifully to stay behind then chase through for the bobbling ball.

While it got a bit messy in the end, due to the end over end nature of how the ball was kicked, former Japan national player Sa'u did well to gather and drive over the line for a memorable try.

Toyota Verblitz, who feature the likes of Willie le Roux, Kieran Read and Michael Hooper, went on to win the match 49-29.
