Doug Howlett apologises

After Doug Howlett's alcohol fueled rampage on Tuesday, he will now have to face a misconduct hearing before he can appear for his new Irish club Munster. The incident occured outside the teams hotel in London and involved him damaging two cars.

Reports yesterday quoted an unnamed hotel staff member who said: "There were about five to seven players drinking in the bar.

"They looked as if they were pretty down in the dumps after they lost and they ran up a 12500 bar bill over several hours. It wasnt just them, it was other members of the squad as well and it included food.

"They were behaving themselves while they were in the bar, but then for some reason, a couple of them decided to go outside and that was where it all kicked off.

"I heard they were bouncing up and down on several cars parked just outside the hotel and that was when we phoned the police."

Howlett was arrested and released on bail. He must report back to the British police later this month and could be charged with causing criminal damage.

The All Black winger is staying in Europe with family for two weeks and took the unusual step of issuing a video apology overnight.

Good on him for being man enough to come forward and apologise.
