Edinburgh Prop WP Nel scores great 40m try against Leinster

Leinster beat Edinburgh 31-16 in their RaboDirect PRO12 match at Murrayfield on Friday night, but it was a consolation try from South African front rower WP Nel that will live long in the memory.

The former Cheetahs tighthead prop showed a fantastic turn of pace as he glided through the Leinster defence to give the home supporters something to cheer about. His dummy and acceleration from 40 metres resulted in one of the best prop tries ever seen in the Scottish capital.

    This is a brilliant try, what a run! I would say as good as Gethin Jenkins for wales vs namibia in the 2011 World Cup.

    Great run! I love how he had basically a two step run-up!
    Leinster No 20 should hang his head in shame. Even with a huge overlap outside him, still should have taken the prop out.
    Also, props to the Leinster 9 who didn't shy away from the tackle, even though it was unlikely to stop the try.

    As always great to watch a big prop in full flight.
    CJ van der Linde scored a couple of bulldozing beauties from about 40 m and halfway out in back to back games for the cheetas some years ago. Any chance there is some footage on this? Didn't find any after a quick search.

    They continue to play in the "library" because it is owned by the SRU so that's one less thing they have to pay for. If they played at another stadium they would have to pay for rent, which the SRU can't afford.
