Jonny May has had a turbulent time of late with injuries and most recently his knee surgery. The Gloucester winger has fought hard to get himself back into match fitness to take part in the last of his club's premiership games this season.
Unfortunately for May, he wasn't able to quite help the cherry and whites make it into the premiership playoffs. His return to play has however enabled him to get a call-up back into the England squad.
One of England's greatest ever wingers, May has credit where Eddie Jones is concerned, and after one training camp was thrust straight onto the plane to Australia.
As luck would have it however, shortly after arriving down under May has tested positive for Covid this very morning. Under Australian government regulations, the English speedster must spend 7 days in self-isolation.
This unfortunate turn of events could scupper plans to include May in the first of the 3 tests against the southern hemisphere opposition, with May only potentially able to return to training shortly before the first test.
Eddie Jones was optimistic in his approach:
"Potentially he'll be available next Thursday to train, so we'll have a look to see what he's like.
"He's experienced and he's showed in his first game back against the Barbarians that he's lacking game time and that he's got his best rugby ahead of him.
"We'll just monitor his situation and make an assessment closer to the day when he gets out."
At 32 May, is coming to the Autumn of his international career, and will need this tour to show that he is still the first-choice winger coming into the next world cup.
