English teen prospect scores bruising solo try in U-18 final

English teenager Barry Karea scored this amazing solo try in the U-18 Champions Trophy final between Dulwich College and Blundell at Allianz Park on Wednesday. Dulwich College won the match 34-29 and became the first school to win the Schools Cup and the Champions Trophy.

The score occured in the 57th minute as Blundell was trying to scrap back into the match, down 22-31. Running over one opponent after the other, Karea's emphatic run will have many mouths watering as he mixed in some impressive footwork on his way to the try.

Despite the loss, the Blundell midfielder earned Man-of-the-match honours and the superstar comparisons that are typically in keeping with such vidoes are surely being thrown around. 

Time will tell what the future holds, but this is certainly an outstanding way to get noticed. The try was certainly impressive enough to get the attention of England Rugby:

    I find rugby content has an aura of being somewhat stale... I used to love the game for the wonderful balance that was between skill, luck and smash... TSRB is a fine example of the game, massive hits, a bit of biff and some fantastic try saving tackles/efforts..

    I don't know if rugby these days has greater skill level etc, but it seems to lack the heart that I feel used to be there more so. Teams like Fiji, Georgia and Japan etc are showing heart and it's so warming to people..

    Not sure where I'm going with this, but seems that because the game is becoming so professional, lines are becoming finer and finer and finer, and now we argue over mm rather than metres... And as a result the costliest person to those mm seems to be the referee..hence everyone has to have a bitch about it...

    But I agree with you.

    Plenty of skills worth seeing from both sides, but especially from Mr Karea, not just his solo try.
    And I should have been clearer, the decision I referred to kept the game closer than it would have been and did not change the outcome. It was relevant only to my description of the match as "fantastic...swaying one way and then the other", whereas it might have been more one-sided if there was an early red card.

    For a couple of reasons;

    1. I'm starting to get incredibly irritated with how much people complain about referees these days. There doesn't seem to be a single game that goes by when you haven't got someone complaining about something and this was just a school boys game.

    It just seems to me that people are forgetting how hard it must be to referee a game of rugby and that being human, they will occasionally make the odd mistake. I also think the amount of times a bad refereeing decision has been the genuine reason for the outcome of a match is really, really low.

    2. This forearm/refereeing in question isn't even seen in the video and yet it's a point of discussion. We're seeing an awesome display of power resulting in a great individual try and instead of praising this we're talking about a supposed refereeing blunder than no one except those who have seen the game can talk about.

    Of course he's entitled to comment and perhaps I am being harsh to target toldtoplay, but I've been visiting this page for 10+ years and it now just seems that half the conversations are people debating over the laws and refereeing decisions with a fine tooth comb. Maybe that makes me sound like a bit of a dick but it's just getting incredibly boring.

    Was the 13 not holding him as they both went to ground? From the angle of the video it looks like 13's hand is on his shoulder/back.

    Bit harsh jimmy23, tooldtoplay was at the match and is surely entitled to make that comment? Is Rugbydump not predicated on showing short snippets of matches which are of interest to viewers and might be decisive to outcomes?

    Not in this day and age...this is soccer MK2..

    Days gone by we'd be talking about how player xyz did well to avoid getting 7 shades beaten out of him in the next maul because of some indescretion he did that the opposing team missed...

    Nowadays we have a good old moan about how human referees are not super human at reffing and carding everyone left right and centre... I guess if EA just hurries up and sorts out a decent rugby game then all future matches can just be played on that and no one then has to get their boots grubby..

    what about a link to the game? I was there and it was a fantastic match, swaying one way then the other, although ref Dixon seemed to miss a forearm to the head in the second minute which knocked out a Dulwich player and could (should?) have resulted in a very different game.
