By now, most fans are aware of the ongoing discussions and negotiations concerning a massive cross-code match between the All Blacks and Kangaroos. Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but December 5 is looking like the selected date if all goes according to plan.
With the world still in the grips of a pandemic, clubs and competitions have been forced to think outside the box for their sport-starved fans.
Among the better ideas has been to continue Super Rugby, albeit without the international travel. New Zealand became the first nation to bring back full stadiums with the advent of Super Rugby Aotearoa. Australia will get their version off the ground this coming weekend with Super Rugby AU.
Apparently, the time is right yet again to dust off the old "Rugby vs League" match idea. This time, however, it appears the teams involved could raise the stakes substantially.
Enter the All Blacks and Kangaroos, two of the biggest names in their respective codes. The brands alone should prove to anyone that this would not just be an easy run through.
The Rugby Ruckus show discuss what many of us are clearly thinking; whether a match would even be possible, what the rules would be, player desire, and who has the most to lose.
As Matt Giteau explains, egos, reputations, and bragging rights would at least dictate players giving it a "red-hot crack".
These kinds of matches have been done before, but not quite to this scale.
