Report: Fiji captain Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu set to leave Toulon as rival club hold talks

Reports from the French publication L'Equipe have suggested that Toulon have decided not to extend the contract of Fiji captain Waisea Nayacalevu beyond this current season.

Despite his remarkable performance at last year's World Cup, the aging Nayacalevu, is now faced with the prospect of re-entering the professional rugby player job market as he approaches his 34th birthday. Notably, however, there has already been swift interest in the talented centre, and it appears that he may not need to venture far, with Montpellier reportedly having engaged in discussions with the Fijian international.

The Fijian captain was simply incredible during the recent World Cup. Unstoppable on the ball, impassable off of it, and a great leader among his teammates. Another impressive season with Toulon under his belt too, it’s hard to argue that there are many better than this man currently.

Check out his impeccable highlight reel:

Despite his advancing years, Nayacalevu has continued to age like a fine wine, suggesting that any team acquiring his services may be securing the prime version of the player. Throughout his entire professional career, Nayacalevu has exclusively plied his trade in France, including a decade in the capital with Stade Francais where he amassed over 200 caps, before making the move to Toulon in 2022.
