Fiji's match with Scotland had now officially been cancelled, Autumn Nations Cup organisers today announced. The match was due to take place at Murrayfield on 28 November but with so many members of the Fiji squad infected with Covid-19, it will not be possible.
Following Fiji's cancelled fixture against Italy and the announcement that they had 29 players infected, today's news comes as no real surprise but will be hugely disappointing for fans.
"The extent of infection in the Fiji camp, combined with a minimum 10-day isolation period, plus the obvious need for suitable preparation for any international test match meant that, whilst difficult, the decision was unavoidable," said an Autumn Nations Cup statement.
"The Tournament organisers remain in constant contact with the Fijian squad regarding their wellbeing and recovery which continues to be the number one priority"
This follows Fiji's cancelled game against France, for which France were awarded a 28-0 bonus point win.
However, the Fiji team and tournament organisers are hopeful that they will be able to take part in their fourth scheduled match, on December 5th, against the team that will finish in 4th place in Pool A. This will be subject to fitness levels once the players come out of isolation, and following all appropriate protocols.
