Fiji head Simon Raiwalui steps down from head coach role

Fiji head coach Simon Raiwalui has confirmed that he has stepped down as the nation’s head coach following their Rugby World Cup quarterfinal exit.

The 49-year-old confirmed the news on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.

A former secondrow for the national team, Raiwalui earned 39 international caps in his playing days whilst also representing some of the biggest clubs in European Rugby.

Confirming that his contract will run through to December 31st , Raiwalui’s resignation after just one year in charge comes as somewhat of a shock to outsiders.

In Fiji’s other two pool matches; they came just short against Wales and Portugal.

Completing their campaign, the Flying Fijians lost by a mere six points to England following a furious comeback in the second half.
