Former Fiji star Campese Ma’afu offers hilarious insight into his international debut

Playing international sports is the absolute pinnacle for any athletically leaning individual.

Running out in front of your adoring fans, representing your home nation, it simply does not get better for any athlete.

For those athletes with a multicultural background, the question of which nation to represent presents an interesting conundrum.

In the case of former Fijian international Campese Ma’afu, this very scenario presented itself as the talented front rower was looking to take the step up from club rugby to the international stage.

Eligible for Australia’s Wallabies, as well as Tonga through his father and Fiji through his mother, Ma’afu’s decision to represent the Fijians is a funny one.

Stating that Tonga were the first team to make contact, Ma’afu was getting set to travel to their camp.

However, a call from the Flying Fijians swung him based primarily on their willingness to cover his expenses!

Adding to the situation, Campese would make his debut against the Wallabies and, more crucially, his older brother Salesi.

The video is well worth a watch, so check it out below.
