Glasgow legend Ryan Wilson offers a great behind the scenes look at the URC side

Former Scotland international and Glasgow Warriors rugby player, Ryan Wilson, has embarked on a journey back to his roots, returning to Glasgow to test his mettle and see if he still possesses the prowess to crack it as a professional player.

Wilson left a lasting legacy with the Glasgow Warriors, having made over 200 appearances for the club. Returning to rub shoulders with his old teammates for a few days, Wilson offered a glimpse into what an average day looks like for a professional player.

A day in the life of a professional rugby player is far from ordinary. The rigorous training, strategic planning, and meticulous attention to physical and mental well-being define their daily routine. The video itself offers a great insight into these areas that are crucial to top-level rugby performance.

The morning kicks off early for Wilson and his teammates, with a nutrient-packed breakfast to fuel their bodies for the gruelling day ahead. Training sessions are intense, focusing on skill refinement, tactical drills, and physical conditioning. The gym becomes a second home as players sculpt their bodies to endure the demanding nature of the sport.

Afternoon sessions often involve team meetings, video analysis, and strategy discussions. The mental aspect of rugby is as crucial as the physical.

Although Wilson is retired, the video shows a great insight into how respected the former backrow had at the club. Chipping in with some great banter to keep the mood light, rugby fans will be able to identify with Wilson, given every club has and needs a character like his.

Post-training recovery is paramount. Ice baths, physiotherapy, and nutritional recovery aid players in bouncing back from the day's exertions. Showing several players getting treatment whilst joining others in the ice bath, the footage further highlights how crucial recovery is for players to be able to perform week in, and week out.

Whilst the overall insight into what the player's days look like, the biggest takeaway from the video is just how enjoyable the Glasgow set-up looks.

Currently sitting second on the United Rugby Championship table, the Warriors appear to have struck the perfect balance between enjoyment and performance under head coach Franco Smith.
