Sbu Nkosi is no longer a Bulls player following a mutual agreement to part ways.
This comes as little surprise to many, as Nkosi is no stranger to the headlines. The former Springbok winger made the news just last year after going ‘missing’ from his club.
At the time, the Pretoria based side issued the following statement:
"After numerous failed attempts, which include but are not limited to phone calls, texts messages, calls to relatives, partner and close friends as well as four house visits to his known place of residence, the company took the decision to open a missing person case with the Brooklyn Police Station (which was subsequently transferred to Sunnyside Police Station), in Pretoria on Thursday 17 November 2022. This resulted from the grave worry and concern of everyone at Loftus as well as the need for the expert assistance of the South African Police Services.”
Nkosi was eventually reunited with his squad, and even went on to make an impressive appearance in last months Barbarians Vs World XV fixture.
Despite the club providing Nkosi with plenty of support, Bulls head coach Jake White recently expressed his frustration with the World Cup winner:
“He’s a big boy now and he’s got to make decisions about where he wants to go and it’s not always in anyone else’s hands other than the player. At this point in time, as I said, he’s got to look and see where he wants to go. But he’s not playing well enough, not training hard enough and I don’t see him warranting selection above guys that have been training in the group.”
It appears to have all come to a head now though, as Chief Executive Officer, Edgar Rathbone, has confirmed the player’s exit:
“I would like to thank Sbu for all that he has contributed towards our campaigns during his time with us. I know that it wasn’t an easy time for him personally, but I am confident that the support we provided to him was invaluable,
“Having a Springbok winger of his calibre in our team has been a pleasure. I know that he now feels as though it is the best time to move on and we respect his wishes.”
There is currently no news on his next move, but with a history of ill discipline and controversy left in his wake, clubs may find themselves wary of approaching the talented winger.
