Former Wales centre set for first start Down Under

Former Wales centre Jamie Roberts will make his first start in Super Rugby this weekend.

Wales legend Jamie Roberts will make his first start for new club the Waratahs this Saturday. Roberts will make his first appearance in Super Rugby Pacific as the Waratahs take on the Queensland Reds. It will be an away trip for the Waratahs who are currently unbeaten so far in the 2022 Super Rugby campaign.

The 35 year old has earned 94 caps for Wales at test level, as well as 3 test appearances for the British and Irish Lions. Roberts toured with the Lions to South Africa in 2009, where they lost the series 2 to 1. He also toured in 2013 when the Lions won the series against the Wallabies, 2 to 1.

Roberts began his club career with the Cardiff Blues (now known as Cardiff Rugby) where he spent 6 years at the club making a name for himself. Then following the 2013 lions tour he signed with Racing Metro (now Racing 92) for two seasons. Roberts then joined the Premiership with Harlequins for two seasons. Roberts went on to play briefly with the Stormers before heading back to Wales linking up with the Dragons.

Roberts has made 4 appearances so far for the Waratahs but each time has been off the bench. The experienced centre will be looking to make a good start to hold onto the starting jersey for next week.
