Fraser McKenzies comes off second best in Tommy Bowe collision

During his side's narrow 24-18 defeat to Ulster last weekend, Edinburgh's Fraser McKenzie suffered a nasty looking injury after coming off second best in a collision with Tommy Bowe.

The second-row appeared to attempt a block on Bowe, who was chasing down an up-and-under, but left the field on a stretcher after copping a solid hit from the winger.

There was no intent from Bowe and it was more a case of both players being in the wrong place at the wrong time. McKenzie's intention to block however, certainly played a part in getting himself injured.

While the debate over whether a player is maintaining their line or explicitly obstructing another player will continue, McKenzie appeared to know exactly what he was doing, and paid the price for it.

It was a bizarre incident which, against most odds, saw the 18st McKenzie crumble to the floor while Bowe continued on as if nothing has ever happened.

The former Sale player, while injured enough to be stretchered off is fit for Edinburgh's match against Leinster tonight.

What is your take on McKenzie's block? Should these be phased out by officials?

He's taken on a coaching role at the Brumbies too, as part of his phased return to playing rugby. Brilliant news.

On that note, there is some positive news. It would appear that Christian Lealiifano's leukaemia has gone into remission!

Totally agree Reality. I don't like to take pleasure in anyone's misfortune/injury, but this bloke got exactly what he deserved. The law says you don't have to move out of the way, but McKenzie very deliberately stepped INTO Bowe's path, which is illegal. It's also pretty dangerous if you ask me, and despite my opening sentence, frankly I'm delighted that he got hurt in the process of such a cynical cheap-shot move, and equally so that Bowe came out of it unscathed.

I bet he won't be blocking anyone else anytime soon. Hard to have sympathy for the guy when his own cheating is the cause of the injury.

McKenzie does turn to 'accidentally' block Bowe, but Tommy Bowe puts a shoulder into his back. Totally unacceptable and he should have been binned for it.

Wonder if he felt his neck jar as a result of the clash...

Very strange to see a big man drop like that.

I personally don't have an issue with it however. Looks to me that rather than turning round, he stepped round in order to "accidentally" block Bowe and I don't have an issue with Bowes method of dishing out punishment for it (if intentional or not)....

That being said, glad it wasn't a bad injury..
