French centre ruled out of World Cup opener against the All Blacks

According to reports from French publication L'Equipe, Jonathan Danty will miss the opening game of the 2023 World Cup against New Zealand on the 8th of September due to a hamstring injury.

The match, due to take place at the Stade de France, is expected to be a momentous occasion as the hosts welcome the three-time champions to kickstart the tournament.

This would have been Danty's 24th cap for his national side, but instead, he will find himself sitting in the stands as France look to open with a win in front of the home crowd and a global audience.

His replacement at inside-centre is likely to be Bordeaux's, Yoram Moefana, a younger player who has already achieved so much with France, including a Grand Slam in the 2022 Six Nations Championship.

There are no suggestions as of yet that the injury is any more serious than a one-match rest period.
