Provence scrum-half Ludovic Radosavljevic has been handed a 26-week ban from France's second division ProD2 after racially abusing Nevers winger Christian Ambadiang.
Former Clermont player Radosavljevic issued a public apology on his social media channels after it was revealed by Ambadiang that he was the victim of a racial slur during the match between the two sides a fortnight ago.
The governing body, the Ligue National de Rugby (LNR) quickly announced that it would be investigating the incident before conducting a disciplinary hearing in Paris.
The entry level suspension for such an incident stands at 52 weeks, but the committee took into consideration a number of variables to reduce the ban to half of that.
Radosavljevic will therefore be able to return to playing in April 2022.
The LNR's decision reads as follows:
"Mr Ludovic Radosavljevic was found responsible for 'verbal offence and provocations' and in particular 'verbal aggression (including, all aggression based on religion, skin colour, nationality, ethnic background, sexual orientation)'.
"Given the severity of the situation and the nature of the events, the disciplinary Commission and the rules determined the entry point of the offence at 52 weeks, the maximum sanction term.
"Taking into account the spontaneous recognition of the facts by the player once the game had finished, on social media and in front of the Commission, of his guilt, [as well as] his clean disciplinary record and expression of remorse, the sanction has been reduced by the Commission to 26 weeks of official competition.
"As a result, Mr Ludovic Radosavljevic is suspended for 26 weeks of official competition.
"In view of the fixtures of Provence Rugby, and the commencement of the suspension being the 7th September, the period of suspension of Mr Ludovic Radosvaljevic covers a period of seven and a half months, [with] the player being available to return to play on the 25th April 2022."
