Friday Funnies - Schalk Brits, the best player in the Premiership

If ever there was a case of commentators curse, this is it as the apparent 'Player of the Premiership' Schalk Brits committed the cardinal sin of taking a quick tap a little too hastily, with new hooker John Smit watching on from the stands.

It's been a bit of a rough week for RD as we've had server problems that just won't go away. You've probably noticed. Basically the long and the short of it is that the excessive site traffic keeps crashing the server, which is a bit of a problem when the goal of a website is to get people on it.

We're doing what we can to tweak things so with a bit of patience and perseverence, it'll come right soon and we'll be all set for 2012, with our next phase of development kicking off shortly.

While there's quite a lot of changes going on behind the scenes here, at Saracens they've recently had former Springbok captain Smit join the fray. That means that depending on the form and fitness of the 2007 World Cup winner, star hooker Brits might be feeling the heat soon.

It didn't help that he got himself suspended for a few weeks for a tiptackle which allowed Smit to take up a starting role, but shortly before that, on one of Smit's first weekend's at the club, Brits perhaps tried a little too hard to impress.

Of course anyone who has seen him play in the past few seasons knows how good he is, so this is just a light hearted dig at the man that we have heaps of respect for.

Have a good weekend and keep a lookout for our Heineken Cup tickets for Round 3 soon.

By the way RD, if you're looking for another Friday Funny, last week against Glasgow the referee got in the middle of a ruck and one of the Glasgow players bound with the ref and pushed him over the ruck and he got stuck under some players and had to stop play. He took it well, smiling, etc. Nice to see players and refs have a bit of humour in intense situations like those.

I don't understand why they don't just play him on the back row and Smit at 2. He's often described as a brilliant hooker with an unusual style of play, or something like that, and that's because he isn't a hooker. I think he's a brilliant player who is playing hooker, but I really don't think he should play hooker.

From what i've seen Smit has been a very good signing for Sarries. He's plays a completely different style to Brits and will be pushing hard for a regular starting spot

like the basketball commentator filling in the empty air before a foul shot "this guy hasn't missed a free throw all night.... boink"
