Georgia Stun Italy For Famous Victory

Whilst the Six Nations sides made history over the weekend with Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland picking up memorable victories on the road.

Georgia once again staked their claim for inclusion to Europe’s top table as they recorded their first ever victory over a tier one nation.

Played in front of nearly 20,000 spectators, Georgia produced some blistering rugby to run away with the win.

A regular conversation amongst European Rugby fans, Georgia’s inclusion into the Six Nations has become Rugby’s equivalent of kicking the can down the road.

Now with a victory over the side many have been calling on them to replace, the Lelos have once again put pressure both World Rugby and the Six Nations to include them.

Italy for their part have only just quelled calls for them to be relegated out of the competition having picked up a famous victory over a struggling Welsh side in Cardiff.

This victory did however come on the back of 36 consecutive losses many of which they were not competitive in.

On the flipside, Georgia when given the opportunity have pushed tier one sides to the brink. Most notably were their recent fixtures away to Ireland, Wales and South Africa in which they proved to be highly competitive.

Throw in how many of their players currently play in Europe’s top leagues and one can see that with exposure to regular top-level fixtures the sky is the limit.

For the Six Nations if relegation is not the answer, then outright including Georgia may well be the answer.

The Lelos regularly see sold out crowds so the appetite is there, they have also completely dominated the second division of European Rugby for years now. In fact, they have won The Rugby European Championships every season bar one since 2007.

With a strong fan base behind them, an ascending team that is ready to challenge tier one nations and a want by World Rugby to grow the game, the Lelos inclusion into the Six Nations appears to be a no brainer.
