Gethin Jenkins' fantastic solo effort against Namibia

Welsh prop Gethin Jenkins scored a wonderful solo effort as Wales beat Namibia 81-7 earlier today in New Plymouth, scoring 12 tries as they produced a strong second half performance against the fatigued African outfit.

Namibia, who took a thumping from the Springboks just a few days back, were somehow expected to get up to face Wales today in a fixture that has once again highlighted the problems that exist within the format of the competition. Made up of a handful of professionals and mostly amateur players, the Namibians are now the first team to officially to exit the tournament. 

They did okay in the first half as they showed their fighting spirit and Wales took a while to get going. The second however was a task too much, and they ended up shipping over 80 points in two matches, in just five days.

Welsh center Scott Williams scored a hat-trick, and as his side ran riot in the second half, prop Gethin Jenkins scored a fantastic solo effort. Having returned from horrible injury problems, Jenkins was delighted just to be out there, and as everyone knows, he just needs the ball in a bit of space to show that he himself is a frustrated backline player.

Speaking about his nine month long injury problems, Jenkins said earlier in the week "It has been a long road back, and I have to thank Wales' medical and physiotherapy staff for doing great work with me.

"It is a dark time when you are injured, but the medical staff around me kept me going and kept reassuring me it was going to be right," he said.

Wales and world rugby are the better for it, as today we saw a wonderful player score a brilliant front-rowers try, his second entry in our archive of the best prop tries ever.

    Fiasco? I hope you don't mean the disputed kick. Two touch judges under the posts and several TV angles could not determine that it went over. Accept it. It was close, but not good enough.

    Wales are our sleeper pick in the RWC. Not to win, but to do well. The South Africa fiasco still makes us sick!

    It annoys me too. I really don't understand why, especially when props are getting more dynamic and athletic.
    Typical "Oh we need to act funny, lets make a funny...prop...hamburger..." *lightbulb goes on*

    Fantastic try though. Really poor defense, but he capitalised on it. Fantastic dummy. Love it

    Props these days.....No respect for what a proper front rower should be. What with the long distance tries already? lol.

    Pretty poor effort on defence. What was Blue 22 doing? Awful attempted tackle, he clearly wanted no part of Jenkins!

    A great try but shameful tackling from Namibia's 22, again. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but he needed to get some good shoulder to shoulder contact on a big man like Gethin, to slow him down and put his team mates in a position to stop Jenkins, even if he was unable himself. 22 would have been smashed into row 5 if he manned up on Gethin, and probably concussed as his head would have been on the wrong side, but he'd still have potentially saved a try in doing so.

    I guess though it's easier said than done when you're 0 points to 29 and have no chance of making the scoreline respectable, let alone winning.

    Great dummy from the big man though, sold me on first watch!

    I think that was probably the nicest prop try I've seen. Beats out Phil Vickery's 2002 effort and thensome. I'd have to see it back-to-back with the Trevor Woodman try to make sure, though. I seem to recall Woodman busting out a slick sidestep, whereas Jenkins used the dummy.
