Glasgow's Peter Horne scores incredible winning try vs Northampton Saints

Glasgow Warriors snatched their first Heineken Cup win of the season on Saturday as they knocked Northampton Saints out with a sensational last gasp try from replacement back Peter Horne, who sprinted half the length of the pitch at Scotstoun.

Saints needed a bonus-point victory to stand a chance of qualifying for the last eight, and when Ben Foden scored to tie things up at 20-20 with ten minutes left in the game, it looked possible.

A penalty with two minutes to play then allowed them to kick for the corner and drive things up in search of the fourth try, but indiscipline from prop Alex Waller resulted in a yellow card for punching, and a chance for Glasgow to clear up field.

What followed was a truly memorable try on full time, rich reward for the the loyal 4293 fans that braved the icy conditions. "To get a finish like that was great." said head coach Gregor Townsend.

"It's a reminder of where we should be, winning games in the Heineken Cup. We have been competitive, but we're here to win and that will be a good boost to us in the knowledge that if we play well, we'll get the win.

"If there is any player that deserves a try like that it is Peter Horne. He puts in the most work of any player to improve himself. He is really committed. He gets back on his feet and makes tackle after tackle. Not just the finish, which was outstanding, but his pass and support work."

The Warriors had only pride at stake, but that was enough as they pulled the win out the bag right at the death, with Horne being swamped by team mates after scoring one of the tries of the season.

"I've never been kissed by so many boys," he said post match.

Contender for try of the tournament right there. Great effort by Horne!

Let's hope we see him get a run out in the 6N.

Nice try - good mix of team and individual play. Poor tackling and by then Saints down to 14. But good to see such a try from a Scottish player. Hope he gets the opportunity to do the same in the 6N. ... and a more competitive Scottish side can only be good for the 6N as a whole.

I am aware that Glasgow are #2 in the Pro12. The tone of my first post suggests I think everything about Scottish rugby is in the poo. Nope. Just the international side.

Great to see some good news for a Scottish club. Speaking as an Englishman, I hate to see our cousins north of the border at such a low ebb. The sooner they can get back to playing well, then the more enjoyable it will be to stuff them at Murrayfield.

Fantastic try, rugby can be so wunderful, shitty defense though...

Atmosphere at Scotstoun was truly immense, and the spirit of the Weegie players was similarily awesome!

Likewise, given the chance, I am sure the players will do Scotland proud too!

Dourauldscot, you never know! Can't see us taking a win in Paris, but there's always that wee chance that someone might just underestimate us and get caught with their trousers down.

Wonderful to see some good Scottish back play. With a heavily Glasgow-loaded Scotland squad with a lot of fresh faces, I have that tiny glint of optimism for Scotland this year - although I'm sure that will be quickly extinguished. Dare we hope for 1, 2 or maybe even 3 wins? To be honest, I'd settle for avoiding the spoon and not getting humped in any game.

The atmosphere at Scotstoun was immense, and the feeling after Horne scored was pretty unreal!

Hats off to the Saints supporters for being a good laugh in the circumstances.

Wonderful stuff. Didn't look on at all with 4-5 defenders around him. Admittedly he had fresher legs, but still some brilliant evasive running.
