Reigning Heineken Champions Cup champions, La Rochelle were given an almighty scare by English Premiership side Gloucester during their last sixteen clash on Saturday.
Trailing with time about to expire, the Ronan O’Gara coached Top 14 giants looked to be crashing out of European competition in dramatic fashion.
Yet, as they proved in last year’s final, they are not done until the final whistle blows.
This time it was French international Teddy Thomas who reminded the world of his class as he went over for his second try of the evening.
The score would see La Rochelle squeak home 29 – 26 and with it set up a date with another Premiership side in three-time Heineken Cup champions Saracens.
Whilst the result will no doubt leave O’Gara pleased, one incident that may come back via a sighting is the apparent ‘crocodile roll’ by replacement prop Georges-Henri Colombe.
Attempting to cleanout Gloucester backrow Ruan Ackermann, the 135kg front rower rolls his opponent awkwardly leading to some horrible images.
Having thoroughly reviewed the images, the match officials decided a yellow card was sufficient.
Despite this, there has been plenty of debate online as to whether it warranted a more serious sanction.
