Despite recently coming under fire from former England winger Ugo Monye, the social aspect of club rugby appears alive and well.
Monye certainly has a point in certain respects and that drinking is not the key point to the sport side of things.
No doubt the action on the feeling of accomplishment of mucking in with your mates on the pitch is Rugby’s greatest calling card.
Often however it is the fun off the pitch where bonds are further solidified. Absolutely this can be achieved without excessive consumption of alcohol, the club bar however does remain a sacred place for many clubs around the world.
Whether it is recounted the match you’ve just played, discussing your glory days or simply rehydrating after a tough contest. Club bars around the world have heard stories of heroism, heartbreak and perhaps exaggeration that would not be found anywhere else.
If these walls could write, they would have produced many a best seller and perhaps the odd flop too.
The primary point is however that the club bar is an area where everyone should be and usually is welcome.
These lads have solidified the point as you can see the mateship that is evident in the team. Even if there was a few false starts and perhaps a slow anchor…..
