How the final round of the 2015 Six Nations will be decided

Wales' win against Ireland on Saturday coupled with England's victory over Scotland means that this years six nations will be a three-way race between those two and Ireland.

All the teams are deadlocked on 6 points with three wins each, however England’s superior points difference of 37 see’s them on top of the pile against Ireland’s 33 and Wales’ 12.

Italy vs Wales

Wales kick off the weekend round of matches with their game against Italy. Their recent form has sure made up for their poor start to the campaign with wins against Ireland, France and Scotland giving them an outside shot at the title.

Wales go to Italy knowing that they must win, and win comfortably if their outside shot of the title is to be realized, this will be no mean feat with Italy showing that they poses a real threat after their win against Scotland. However this could all be scarpered should either Ireland or England win their respective games.

Scotland vs Ireland

Whilst Ireland’s chances of a Grand Slam may have vanished following their defeat to Wales, they still possess a strong chance of winning the Six Nations. They face a Scottish side that is yet to win a game this tournament though their own confidence might be wounded following their recent loss.

Ireland have the benefit of knowing how Wales did but with England kicking off after them will be in the tricky situation of not knowing whether to push for points or just stick with the win.

England vs France

England’s superior points difference puts them as slight favourites to lift the trophy and they need nothing less than a win against France to seal the championship. Along with the win they must be sure to secure a sufficient margin should Ireland win and Wales put the hurt on Italy.

They have the benefit of knowing what is needed due to their later kick off but a resurgent French side will be no pushovers.

France in fact actually maintain a very distant shot at the title should both Wales and Ireland lose and they defeat England at Twickenham, they are currently 4th on a points difference of 22. Whilst nothing is impossible the French will need more than a hint of luck to win this years Six Nations.

It promises to be one of the most exciting last rounds of rugby this Saturday and one that is sure to have a few twists and turns as the day goes on!

    Reading the news and it mentions tweets from 'celebs' about the rugby... All very good until I come across one from that big eared football fairy 'Linekar'

    Indeed! Best attack VS best defence (draw with Ireland)! Yet as you said, its only stats. We can only hope for an open game but with the pressure of a crunch as last game and title decider... I m afraid its gonna be ugly!

    It's true, the French defence is pretty good (only 2 tries leaked so far?). But stats wise, England do have the best attack (in terms of tries scored, defenders beaten, clean breaks and meters made) in the tournament so far. Although having said that, making the most of those stats is a different matter, as the Scotland game proved.
    It'll be interesting see which will prevail, particularly if the conditions allow for an open game.

    It's cruel for french supporters. One have to hope for 2 upsets by Italy and Scotland... but then chances that the English get the title would be higher! :-)

    Psychological factors (overconfidence VS revenge) apart, Wales could trash a collapsing Italy.
    I wanted to believe that Scotland would be the big surprise of this tournament but the only surprise is how bad they manage to get when it comes to winning games. Just the opposite of Ireland.
    With this french defence... I don't see the English increasing their points difference.
    With a 29-0 of their own, the welsh would be at +41, Ireland would need a +8 diff and England +4...
    Mmm well that is really close indeed.

    Whatever the outcome, I cant get rid of this nagging doubt that Stuart Lancaster isn't a true Head Coach and England can't seems be able to find small the %'s to achieve the performances they'll need to win the RWC'15.

    Don't take me as a hater, I've a lot of respect for SL and his methods, and England are in a better place now than when he started, just that I reckon he's much more of a development coach.

    Looking back at the Italian and Scottish home games and the shambles in Dublin, I still have my doubts.

    Sure, I know we have a ton of injuries at the moment but Kiwi mates of mine are amazed that England doesn't win every world cup, given the player base, strength in the junior ranks (U20 champs 2011 & 2013, finalists 5/7 times) and financial resources we have.

    A lot hinges on the game against France this weekend, the last competitive match before England kick off the RWC against Fiji, after a double-header warm-up against the French and Irish in Aug/Sept.

    You can say it's a long way off, but can they find the extra few % they need between now and then?

    Well said DrG, but I reckon the Scots manage will to beat the Irish. England should scrape through against the French and Wales won't gain enough points difference against Italy.

    Vern Cotter will be desperate to record a win in his first 6N, and after the Italy game the players will also be up for the fight at home.

    Ditto Italy; home advantage will get them close to Wales, but not enough for the win.

    Then it just leaves the English to pour a final humiliation on France, again with home support. Narrow win and 6N title on points diff from the Welsh.

    Hahaha. Actually it's quite interesting, I can see how potentially Wales could win it because they could be the only team to win their game..

    Scotland have a good group of players, I wouldn't expect them to beat Ireland, but I can see how it could potentially turn into one of those Ireland 17 Scotland 18 or something like that sort of games.

    And yes, as you said, France could actually turn up and make it a very hard game.

    I think however that going into this weekend Ireland is sitting in the driving seat. Less points difference, but they've got what we could all assume; at this stage, as the team thats most likely to offer up more points for taking..
