Insane display of strength from Malcolm Marx

Rugby players are being built bigger and stronger with each passing generation. Whilst it is argued that this increased size is causing more and more injuries in the modern game, there can be a lot said for the benefits of safety it can bring.

This was shown clearly in this morning's titanic battle between Australia and South Africa, in which the home side came through victorious.

It was Malcolm Marx’s incredible strength that drew plaudits from both sets of fans. In a lift gone wrong, Pieter-Steph du Toit had failed to collect the ball in the air from kick-off, and had actually gone past the horizontal on his way to surely landing on his neck.

Having been the lifter Marx locked his huge shoulders in place to hold his Springbok teammate inside down, in a scene that would not have looked out of place in the new Expendables movie.

When you bear in mind the Springbok legend is holding up 120kg of pure muscle over his head, it makes the feat just that more impressive!
